Within the department of Construction Engineering and Lighting Science there are good possibilities for personal development by participating in research projects, mostly done in close co-operation with industry. The research is interdisciplinary and includes the whole chain from coating process and material properties to materials science as well as modelling and simulation. The department today consists of 17 researchers and PhD students.

The research is conducted in close cooperation with other relevant fields within the school of engineering, for instance Product Development and Industrial Engineering and Management. The work consists of research and teaching in the area construction engineering.
The primary research focus concerns how an integrated industrialized construction process can be created for customizing and optimizing the design and production of the final product. It also entails the integration of planning, design and management of production in construction projects. For instance, how digital technologies, tools and applications can be used for information management in an integrated building process.
A close cooperation with relevant companies is also one of the foundations of the work within the School of Engineering. Other integral parts of the research activities are to apply for research grants from external funding agencies, as well as supervision of PhD and master students.
